The main protagonist in BIG WHITE LIES by Jay Darby is veteran street cop, Dan Porter. He’s harder-than-concrete, tells it how it is, and hates that he still cares.
When the Police Minister questions Porter’s investigation methods and whether he has just quoted a famous Roman, Porter replies – “Nah, it’s nothing famous, just a reference to desk jockeys like yourself who’ve never faced an angry man but declare themselves experts on everything…Compared to the cops, ambos, nurses, etcetera, who are out there twenty-four seven wiping society’s smelly arse. You lot talk a good game, but the other lot have to play it…”
Do you think he left the politician in any doubt what he thinks of him and his type?
